A project serves as a central hub that stores and organizes all the relevant media elements. By saving your project, you can return to it at any time in the future to resume work or make adjustments if needed. Moreover, if you decide to start over from scratch, a new project will automatically be created upon initiating editing on a video or slideshow. This ensures that all your hard work is preserved and easily accessible for continued tinkering with creative ideas.
When initiating the Movavi Video Editor application, users are immediately presented with an opportunity to begin crafting their multimedia masterpiece. Selecting Create New Project or Create Quick Video from the File menu provides an easy way to do so while continuing to work on another project.
To ensure that all of your work is saved, you can use the Save Project function located in the File menu or by pressing Ctrl+S on your keyboard. When prompted, choose a location and enter a name for your project (by default, all your projects are stored in "\My Videos\Movavi Video Editor\Projects" subfolder of the user folder). This will create a new file with the name you've given it, allowing you to easily access your project and to pick up where you left off at any time in the future. It is also recommended to save your project frequently throughout the editing process to avoid losing any progress made.
The ".mepx" file extension is used for the project that has been saved in the Movavi Video Editor format. It is a proprietary format used by Movavi software. This means that the file can only be opened and edited using Movavi Video Editor. Projects are not compatible with standard video players. In order to view the final video outside of Movavi Video Editor, it needs to be converted into a widely-supported video format such as AVI, MP4, MOV, etc. This conversion process allows you to share your project with others who may not have access to Movavi Video Editor software.
To open a project in Movavi Video Editor, you can use the Open Project function located in the File menu. First, navigate to the location where your project file is saved on your computer and select it. Then, click the Open button to import the project into Movavi Video Editor. Once the project is loaded, you can continue editing or rendering as needed.
In addition to using the Open Project function from the File menu, you can also open a project in Movavi Video Editor by:
(1) Locating the project file in File Explorer and dragging it directly into the Video Editor window.
(2) Double-clicking on the project file to import it into the program.
(3) Using the File Import tab in the program to add files from your computer, including projects, by selecting Add Files and choosing the project file.
If you find yourself in a predicament where your computer has malfunctioned and you've lost all of your hard work, Movavi Video Editor provides an automatic backup feature. To restore a project from an autosaved file, you can employ a salvage operation that leverages the "autosave" file as a lifeline. This special backup file contains your unfinished work, which can be revived and incorporated into your current project with minimal fuss. To access this saved content, simply rename the "autosave.mepx" file to something more descriptive, such as "restored_project.mepx" and then open it in Video Editor. By doing so, you can recover some of your lost progress and continue working on your project without having to start from scratch.
When working on a media project in Video Editor, it's not uncommon for some files to go missing or be moved around on your computer. If you encounter this issue while opening a recent project, don't worry! You can easily restore these missing files by clicking the Specify Folder button in the message box and specifying their new location. Alternatively, you can click Skip to open the project without the missing files or use the magnifying glass icon to select and move individual files to their correct location. It's always a good idea to keep your original media files organized and backed up on your computer before starting any editing work to avoid potential file loss.
