Framing with purpose: utilize highlight, conceal, and motion effects

from the official website.

Highlight and Conceal is a technique used to selectively modify specific areas of a video frame while leaving the rest unchanged. This can be achieved by applying masks, such as ellipses or rectangles, to cover unwanted regions, and then blurring, pixelating, or darkening the masked areas. One common application of Highlight and Conceal is for privacy reasons, where you want to conceal sensitive information from a video. For instance, in interview videos, you might need to blur out identifying features like faces or license plates to protect individuals' privacy. By applying a mask over these regions and then blurring them, the viewer will not be able to see the hidden details, while the rest of the video remains unaffected.

Begin by selecting the clip on the Timeline that requires editing. Navigate to the left sidebar, click on the More tools icon, and then choose Highlight and Conceal under Video. From the presented list, choose your preferred mask type.

Go to the Mask Properties tab to modify Opacity, Feathering, and Outline. Click the Apply button to save the modifications.

Position the frame within the player to align with the object you wish to conceal or accentuate.
Adjust the mask's dimensions and position as needed by dragging its corners within the player or clicking inside it for movement.

To add multiple masks for different objects, click Add mask at the top of the Highlight and Conceal panel. Eliminate a mask by using the trash icon.

Motion tracking:
In order to link your mask to an object in the video, switch to the Motion tab.
Select your preferred tracking method: Quick for stationary objects or Precise for moving ones. Alternatively, select Artificial Intelligence to automatically optimize settings for any motion. Once you've identified the object to be tracked and linked with the mask, click Track to initiate the process.

To revert to the initial tracking state, press the Reset button.
